Speaking of Josh, one of my first bands as a young man was One On One in Liverpool. We played regularly to crowds of about a dozen. There were only 4 of us, but 2 thought they were in U2 too! LOL Needless to say, I sacked 'em. I got NO pleasure out of it at all, and I imagine it was very upsetting for you Frank. I got quite heartsick.

I realised that when a band aspires towards a democracy, it's a crazy path. There's gotta be a leader. I became a leader and things improved dramatically. When one's vision is shared and supported, the band is always greater than the sum of its parts.

Sadly, whilst (as I said in the previous post) I wish Josh well, he has made his decision. I've known lots of 'Josh's and they all end up the same way: propping some bar up, reminiscing about how he used to be a drummer, and no-one believing him!

Silly boy on his way to becoming a sad man. I'm not happy. Such a waste of talent.

See y'all at Southampton! YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! :D

I gotta tell ya Franks equipment as awesome as it is must be sure must have a mind of its own. "oh no not this guy again hes about to fry our guts were gonna need a break at some point" I remember '79 pocono downs raceway Scorpions, Henry Paul Band,Blackfoot, Edgar Winter,Aerosmith, Ted Nugent and of cource Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Franks on fairly early in the day and about three songs in a loud pop and no sound. Musta blown a fuse of something Im not sure but some techs are runnin around tryin to fix it and I must say Its the first time Ive seen Frank pissed. You know who fixes it right. After that he played with such a vengence. mops up the defragmented song and bust out with the sickest 'watchtower' ever. People around me didnt even have a clue and thier jaws were dropping. You know who stole that show. Aerosmith wreaked as usual and although I liked my first Nugent experience he was more of a clown than anything else. I would have packed my shit and gone the fuck home ....fortunately for him he shows up dropped from from a helicopter swingin from a rope...the best part of the show for him and the fact that he didnt hear how bad Frank kicked his ass.

swan-song i had the same opinion, well almost, lol when i saw Frank in '01 in Buffalo with Josh. But the two shows that i just saw in NY changed all that. Josh really came a long way and i gotta say he was just awesome. Playing with Frank just long enough made him great, and helped change that boy into a man. He's learned alot from Frank and it should serve him well in whatever he does. I wish him luck.

Plastic Man, it sounds like sabatoogee to me Moe! Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!

i didn't mean to ruffle anybodys feathers....but as a hard rockin drummer for the last thirty years i was only giving my opinion of this whole josh thing. i have seen all the greats again and again ( some famous some not)i remember seeing timm bierry playing with frank and my jaw just dropped. as far as the kid being ok in 2001 and great now.....frank dosn't come around much as you all know ( i see him every time he's here believe me)i don't want to watch sombody become great over time, i expect to see greatness every time because thats what i've come to expect outta m. rush. i like to be blown away by a band....and m. rush has blown me away many times.

Ah, no feathers fly'n here, i see your point clearly. And yes, i have seen FMMR many times, with Tim, and Jim, and i agree, Josh aint even close! But Frank needed a drummer, and Josh really had the potental, if he stuck with it, i think he'd have what youd expect, and i know Frank wouldnt have it any other way, especially being a drummer himself. Remember the topic on what our opinions were when Frank needed a drummer? Well, i suggested not to get one so young, theres problems and i was right.

Ha ha...That happened to ZZ Top during the big "Eliminator" tour. Blackfoot opened & outrocked the crap out of them. That was almost as good as Frank sending Triumph packing in Detroit. It's all about honest, roll up your sleeves, Rock & Roll, vs. elaborate stage shows, samples & "posery" Is that a word? Ha ha... ZZ Top used to be a respectable Blues Rock band. Eliminator was their "Death Knell".

I saw ZZ about 4 or 5 years ago and it was tired. At this point,It seems like its just a money thing for them with the actual heart and soul taking a distant back seat.If Frank and the band's playing was half as inspired as it was at BB King's it would make that pretty apparent.[/quote]
The early/mid 70's had the best Hard Rock ever, Period!

Sammy Hagar opened for them in Richmond, and the "Red Rocker" blew them away. I think it was the Eliminator tour also. (Pre- Van Halen Days of course). I also had the unfortunate experience to see ZZ Top on their next tour, whatever it was. We only went because Nugent was supposed to open. He never showed and some unknown band called the Smithereens opened to a very hostle Nugent crowd. I felt sorry for them but let me tell you, they still!!! blew ZZ Top's tired set away. The Smithereens were dodging bottles and all kinds of things. They played and when they finished they said "Thank You and F*&k You! LOL

ZZ top

I was at that show, and after Frank had played ZZ Top made us wait for 45 minutes. Afterwards, their show wasn't even very good and I left after the second song :!:
