All,

I am sure nobody on this list needs me to tell them that Frank and his band are the real deal. Therefore I won’t go overboard with the superlatives regarding Holmfirth last night.

Suffice to say it was absolutely unbelievable and beyond even what I thought it was going to be like. I was right at the front with a bunch of Marinoheads off the board – Juggernaut 1, Boltonboy, Derek (Harland, who took me over) and Denis. What tremendous company to be in – friends for life I feel sure.

It was a real honour and privilege to see all that stuff played not 6 feet from me. A genuinely unforgettable and beautiful experience.

I took loads of photos as did lots of other folk. I’ll post the link to them once I’ve got them posted in a Yahoo album.

Some specific comments regarding the gig do need to be made, so here we go;

The venue was very cosy – 400 maximum capacity and it seemed to me it was pretty near full. Certainly there was a massive roar when the guys walked on.

All the guys were in good humour. Avi broke a string on 2 different songs and there was plenty of laughing about that on stage. I caught Pete’s eye during one of Frank’s jaw dropping improv’s and as I shook my head in disbelief Pete just smiled as if to say “yeah, that is crazy playing eh?” I got a pick off Pete at the end of the show, which was a nice bonus.

He’s Calling featured some immense duelling between Avi and Frank, as did the 30 minute Poppy. How many people play a violin like Avi does with a wha-wha pedal? Unreal.

Strange Universe was absolutely beyondo. If you live a thousand years you will never hear such a tone as Frank has on that Glynn guitar. It was astonishing to see such technique and utter intensity and devotion to an instrument at close proximity.

Stories of a Hero. As emotional a rendition as I expected. Again, frighteningly intense play toward the climax.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Can you say incendiary? The rendition on Real Live! is something but believe me I have never in 26 years of gigging seen anything like last night’s performance of that song. It had Ain’t Dead Yet, Slippin’ and Slidin’, as well as the playing with teeth etc. At one point Frank was wailing so hard I just started laughing. I mean, playing like that is just plain wrong!!

Try for Freedom was colossal. For me this is Frank’s single most beautiful solo piece (as opposed to intense piece – there is a difference) and last night was as beautiful as the one rendered on Real Live. I am prepared to be wrong but I could swear that towards the finale of this he was on the verge of tears. It had been a very intense night and the feedback from the audience was very strong. We all know what playing means to Frank and I think he may have had his emotions on his sleeve at that moment. Certainly it was an emotional night for me.

The band returned for an encore of Free. Tremendous. The final words of the night must belong to Frank who paid his audience one of the nicest compliments. Toward the finale he said “You guys rock” and I must say he was right. We rocked like a volcano thanks to Mahogany Rush and I hope we can all do it again one time.

I see now that I may well have gone over the top with the superlatives but it is all in the best possible taste!!

Best wishes to all,

Parky

Hello to all my new and now very good friends,

I only got my pc up and running again today and couldn't wait to hear what you all had to say about the event. by the the way sorry if my hair got in the way of anyone's view???? lol. But what a night!!!!!!!! Parky the pictures are awsome, Boltonboy, Derek & Denis what can I say to you guys? it was an honour and a privelage to meet such dedicated fans and such awsome people and all the other guys who were up at the front enjoying what had to be one the best live performances I have ever seen.

I was going to mention the tracks etc, but they have all been well and truly done by the rest of you and I agree with all your reviews 100% and the fact that we got an encore was truly amazing and its good to see the great man himself seen how privelaged we all were to see him up close and personal...

As you may know Adele took quite a few photos on the night and quite a few of the front row gang and as soon as we get them edited and sorted I will put them up for you all to see.... Parky they may not be just as professional yours but I will have a go....... By the way I am now officialy DEAF.... the ringing in my ears is still there but god dam it was worth it.

So in closing as soon as get the pics I will send, and again thanks again for the privelage of meeting with ya all.

WHAT A NIGHT............... Bolton boy I got your card and will keep in touch, thanks for that man. :headbanger

What a great set of pictures, thanks so much Parky.
I have seen Frank and his different bands many times but never with a violin player. I am really looking foreward to that day when it happens, I know it will.
You people in the UK are doing a fantastic job supporting Frank and the band.
