Good review but one small pointer for me, i went to Holmfirth to hear what FRANK wanted to play , not what we wanted to hear. I know that might sound a bit IRISH , but thats the way i see it, and thank GOD thats the way it was. A die hard FRANK fan forever

Frank has a multitude of great songs from his studio albums that he could perform live, but doesn't. I'd be willing to bet that if he did, he'd probably sell more records. Maybe this is not important to him - but I doubt it. I know his sales are important to me because if they don't sell - there won't be many more coming out and that would be OUR loss. I would also think that he likes most of the songs that he records for the studio albums, so to play more of them shouldn't be something that he wouldn't want to do.

I too wish Frank would play more stuff from the whole mix of albums. Don't get me wrong- I LOVE the current mix/format of the RealLive show.
It's just that I'm dying to hear some of these other epic songs live! Maybe when (not if) we congregate for the DVD shoot, we'll touch on the whole enchillada. Till then, I'll be diggin' whatever the Man does- just cause it's Frank. Rock on boys!! :headbanger

For the record, I would like to state one more time that Frank's style of playing, including the long solos, is to my liking. I believe any artist should write and play the music that pleases them. If I don't like the way Frank is writing songs or playing them, then I should look for some other artist that is closer to my tastes. It so happens that, the more I listen to Franks body of work, the more I like it - every note of it. I wouldn't want him to leave anything out of anything he's done, studio or live! IMO, there are a lot of guitar players out there who can't play a 5-minute solo without repeating themselves or becoming really boring. I have never been bored by any Frank Marino solo I've ever heard. Maybe I'm just naive or lack the trained ear that professionals have. But to me, all of Frank's solos sound unique and "say something" to me musically.

I'm sure if Frank was just in it for the money, he could just let some big record company tell him what to write and how to play it. Or, he could move his family to Nashville and get a job playing in some big country star's band. Or he could sign with some pop star diva and play for her. However, in either of the latter two cases, he'd probably have to limit his solos (if he was allowed any) to 30 seconds or less and keep his playing in the background so as not to take the spotlight away from the star.

Obviously and thankfully, that's not going to happen. IMO, Frank is going to keep writing and playing some of the best guitar music in the universe (the Strange Universe, that is!) with various flavors of rock, psychedelia, jazz, blues, Eastern, and a few others in the mix. And, IMO, there are plenty of fans out there who feel basically the same way. Frank, keep bringin' it the way you've always done! :headbanger If you want to add some more of the old songs to your live shows, that's fine - great in fact! :clap But, please don't limit your improvisations to fit some kind of time limit!!! :hairshocker Don't stop till it feels like it's time to stop!! 8)

For the sake of argument, suppose Frank felt like playing 3 hours of nothing but country music covers - would you still be happy? Or would it be what you expected? Just because the other reviewer would've liked to have heard more songs with shorter solos, is he any less of a 'die hard FRANK fan'?

I have never personally gone to ANY concert to hear what that particular artist wanted play - but rather, what I want to hear. I don't expect to hear everything that I want, but I'll probably hear the majority of it. That comment makes it sound like the artist should totally disregard his/her fans - and let's face it - those are the people that are buying the tickets and cd's.

I go to concerts of the artists that play from the heart, therefore they play the music they LOVE. not your usual main stream shit :x , who are not genuine and only want to become rich over night and then fade away.I personally went to hear FRANK do what he does best in my book and that is play guitar , and i dont care what it is as long as it involves long AMAZING guitar solos. any way thats my 2 quid and i am all northern irish and proud of it :headbanger

I so much agree with what blahmcduh says. Guitar solos played by other people sound like an interlude in the music where the lead guitarist does a solo. Whereas Frank's solos ARE the music. They follow a thread or theme and take you places. NEVER boring.
